Immersive Oasis
I have been part of Immersive Oasis since 2021, an extended reality studio based in Asturias.
The studio
XR · AsturiasImmersive Oasis designs and develops interactive and immersive experiences for Extended Reality (XR) and spatial computing. It was founded in Asturias in 2020 and works with both companies and public institutions.
Its main lines are virtual reality applications, location-based entertainment, mixed reality content and 360-degree video, along with the hardware support that goes with them.
The work splits mainly between healthcare, industry and tourism: medical training and digital therapies for pharmaceutical companies such as Daiichi Sankyo, AstraZeneca, Bayer and Sanofi; simulation and visualisation for industry; and heritage projects with town councils like Oviedo and Aller.
My work there
I am lead developer and CTO at the studio, and sometimes a graphics programmer too. I have worked on every project except the video-only ones.
The results
One of the best things about working at Immersive Oasis is that what we build ends up being useful to someone: medical training, rehabilitation, therapy…
For example, one of the games in our digital therapies application, a two-handed painting exercise I conceived, has been the subject of a study published in Applied Sciences. We did not run the study ourselves: an outside team compared the virtual reality version against the camera-based one across eighteen participants, measuring satisfaction, heart rate and perceived exertion.
